Collecting and Using Your Personal Data

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using Our Service, We may ask You to provide Us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify You. The personal information We collect depends on how You use the Service and may include, but is not limited to:

  • Name (your full name / display name)
  • Email address
  • Username
  • User ID (the account identifier assigned to You by the Service)
  • Account password (stored only in securely hashed form; never in plain text)
  • Profile information that You choose to add, such as an "about" / bio text, social media links, and a profile picture selected from our built-in preset avatars. The app does not upload photos from your device — only preset avatars are available.
  • Phone number — collected only if You choose to provide it when submitting our optional Contact form. A phone number is not required to create or use an account.
  • User-generated content that You submit, such as book ratings, the reason and comment text of a book report, and the messages You send through the Contact form.
  • Search queries You enter within the app or website.
  • Usage Data (described below).

For accounts created through Google Sign-In, We receive only the basic profile information contained in the verified sign-in token, namely Your name and email address. We do not request or collect Your contacts, contact list, or any social graph.

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.

On the Website, Usage Data may include Your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that You visit, the time and date of Your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

The Website is delivered through Cloudflare, our content delivery network (CDN) and security provider. As Your requests pass through Cloudflare, it processes technical data such as Your IP address and request details to route, secure, and speed up the Website on Our behalf. Cloudflare also caches public (logged-out) pages at its edge servers so they load faster; pages served to signed-in users are not stored in this shared cache. See "With Service Providers" below.

When You access the Service by or through the Android app, We and our service providers may automatically collect:

  • App interaction and analytics data — for example, screens viewed, features used, and similar in-app events (via Firebase Analytics), used to understand and improve how the Service is used.
  • Diagnostics, crash logs and performance data — for example, crash stack traces, error reports and performance metrics (via Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring). This telemetry is collected from release (production) builds only.
  • Device and other identifiers — including the device Advertising ID, the Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) push token, and Firebase installation/instance identifiers. These are used for advertising, push notifications, and analytics/diagnostics as described in this policy.

All data transmitted between the app and our servers and service providers is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

Downloaded books stay on your device. Books you download for offline reading are stored in the app's private storage on your device and are never uploaded to us or shared with any third party.

Data we do NOT collect. The app does not collect your precise or approximate location, your contacts, your photos or videos, microphone or audio recordings, your calendar, your SMS messages, or any health or financial/payment data.

Information from Third-Party Social Media Services

The Company allows You to create an account and log in to use the Service through a Third-party Social Media Service. In the current release of the Taleem360 app, the only social login provider offered is:

  • Google (Google Sign-In)

If You decide to register through or otherwise grant us access to Google Sign-In, We collect only the personal data contained in the verified Google sign-in token — namely Your name and email address. We do not collect Your activities, contact list, or any other Google data.

Facebook login is not offered in the current release of the app. If we re-enable additional social login providers in the future, we will update this policy accordingly. (Twitter / X has never been a login provider for the Service.)

Tracking Technologies, Cookies and On-Device Storage

On the Website, We use Cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on Our Service and store certain information. Tracking technologies used are beacons, tags, and scripts to collect and track information and to improve and analyze Our Service. The technologies We use may include:

  • Cookies or Browser Cookies. A cookie is a small file placed on Your Device. You can instruct Your browser to refuse all Cookies or to indicate when a Cookie is being sent. However, if You do not accept Cookies, You may not be able to use some parts of our Service. Unless you have adjusted Your browser setting so that it will refuse Cookies, our Service may use Cookies.
  • Web Beacons. Certain sections of our Service and our emails may contain small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, and single-pixel gifs) that permit the Company, for example, to count users who have visited those pages or opened an email and for other related website statistics.

Cookies can be "Persistent" or "Session" Cookies. Persistent Cookies remain on Your personal computer or mobile device when You go offline, while Session Cookies are deleted as soon as You close Your web browser.

We use both Session and Persistent Cookies for the purposes set out below:

  • Necessary / Essential Cookies
    Type: Session Cookies
    Administered by: Us
Purpose: These Cookies are essential to provide You with services available through the Website and to enable You to use some of its features. They help to authenticate users and prevent fraudulent use of user accounts.
  • Cookies Policy / Notice Acceptance Cookies
    Type: Persistent Cookies
    Administered by: Us
Purpose: These Cookies identify if users have accepted the use of cookies on the Website.
  • Functionality Cookies
    Type: Persistent Cookies
    Administered by: Us
Purpose: These Cookies allow us to remember choices You make when You use the Website, such as remembering your login details or preferences, to provide You with a more personal experience. This includes a small non-identifying cookie (named logged_in) that records only whether You are signed in, so that Our content delivery network (Cloudflare) serves You the correct signed-in or public version of a page. It contains no personal information.
  • Advertising Cookies
    Type: Persistent Cookies
Administered by: Google (a third party)
Purpose: On the Website We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads and, where You consent, to personalize them based on Your visits to this and other websites. You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ad Settings (adssettings.google.com) and through the cookie-consent controls shown on the Website.

The Android app does not use browser cookies. Instead, the app stores information locally on your device using standard Android on-device storage (such as SharedPreferences and a local Room database) — for example your login session/token, settings, bookmarks, and your offline downloads index. The app and its embedded service-provider SDKs also use the device Advertising ID and other identifiers described above. You can clear most of this on-device data from within the app (Settings → Storage & Data) or by clearing the app's data / uninstalling it.

Use of Your Personal Data

The Company may use Personal Data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our Service, including to monitor the usage of our Service.
  • To manage Your Account: to manage Your registration as a user of the Service. The Personal Data You provide can give You access to different functionalities of the Service that are available to You as a registered user (such as rating, favoriting, and reporting books, and editing your profile).
  • To operate core app features that You request, such as searching, browsing, downloading and reading books, and submitting ratings, reports or contact messages.
  • To contact You: To contact You by email or, where applicable, push notifications regarding updates or informative communications related to the functionalities and services, including security updates, when necessary or reasonable. In-app push notifications can be turned off in the app settings and/or in your device settings.
  • To respond to Your requests and messages submitted through the Contact form or support email.
  • For analytics and improvement: to understand usage trends, diagnose crashes and performance issues, and improve the Service.
  • For advertising: to display advertisements — in the Android app (via Google AdMob) and on the Website (via Google AdSense) — and to measure their performance, as described in "Our Advertising Partners" below.
  • For business transfers: We may use Your information to evaluate or conduct a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of Our assets.
  • To comply with our legal obligations and to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, the public and the Company.

We may share Your personal information in the following situations:

  • With Service Providers: We share certain information with the third-party service providers and SDKs that help us operate, secure, analyze, and monetize the Service. The service providers we use are:
    • Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Performance Monitoring, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications). See Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy and the Firebase privacy and security information at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
    • Google AdMob (advertising in the Android app), Google AdSense (advertising on the Website), and Google User Messaging Platform / UMP (consent management) — see "Our Advertising Partners" below.
    • Google Sign-In (authentication). See https://policies.google.com/privacy.
    • Cloudflare, Inc. — content delivery network (CDN), security/proxy, and file storage (Cloudflare R2) for the Website. Cloudflare processes technical data such as Your IP address and request metadata to deliver, cache, and secure the Website, and it hosts and serves downloadable book files, all on Our behalf. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
The Facebook Login SDK is present in the app package but is fully disabled in the current release and collects nothing.
  • For advertising: We share advertising data with Google so it can serve and measure ads: in the Android app, your device Advertising ID and ad-interaction / measurement signals via Google AdMob; on the Website, advertising cookies, your IP address and similar signals via Google AdSense. This advertising data is the only data we share with a third party for its own purposes, and it is subject to the consent controls described below.
  • For business transfers: We may share or transfer Your personal information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of Company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of Our business to another company.
  • With Affiliates: We may share Your information with Our affiliates, in which case we will require those affiliates to honor this Privacy Policy.
  • With other users: when You share information in public areas of the Service — for example, your public profile, display name, preset avatar, "about" text, social links, and public book ratings — that information may be viewed by other users and may be publicly distributed.
  • For legal reasons or with Your consent: We may disclose Your personal information where required by law (see "Disclosure of Your Personal Data") or for any other purpose with Your consent.

Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

If You are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, We process Your Personal Data on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract (our Terms of Service) — to create and manage Your Account and provide the core features You request, such as browsing, searching, downloading and reading books, rating, favoriting and reporting.
  • Consent — for personalized advertising and the use of the Advertising ID, and for optional communications. Where consent is required, We obtain it through the Google UMP consent prompt before any ad personalization, and You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to secure, maintain, analyze (analytics) and improve the Service, to diagnose crashes and performance issues, to prevent fraud and abuse, and to serve non-personalized advertising, where such interests are not overridden by Your rights.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests.

Retention of Your Personal Data

The Company will retain Your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use Your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

When You delete Your Account, We delete the personal data associated with it as described in "Deletion of Your Personal Data" below. Residual copies in encrypted backups and operational logs are purged within up to 90 days. The Company will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes, generally for a shorter period, except where this data is used to strengthen security or improve functionality, or where We are legally obligated to retain it for longer.

Deletion of Your Personal Data

You have the right to delete Your Account and the personal data associated with it. You can do this in two ways:

  • In the app: open the navigation drawer / your profile → Edit Profile → Delete Account, then confirm. For password-based accounts you will be asked to enter your password; for Google Sign-In accounts you simply confirm. This triggers a permanent (hard) cascade deletion of your account data on our backend.
  • Via the dedicated deletion page: follow the instructions at https://www.taleem360.com/pages/account-data-deletion.

You may also contact us by email or via the contact page to request deletion of your data.

Please note: messages you submitted through the Contact form, and data already processed by our service providers Google/Firebase, Google AdMob (app ads) and Google AdSense (Website ads) (such as analytics and advertising data), are retained outside the account-deletion cascade and are governed by those providers' policies. Residual copies of deleted data in backups and logs are purged within up to 90 days.

Transfer of Your Personal Data

Your information, including Personal Data, is processed at the Company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located, including the data centers of our service providers (such as Google and Cloudflare). This means Your information may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of Your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ from those in Your jurisdiction.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by Your submission of such information represents Your agreement to that transfer. The Company will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that Your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy, and that appropriate safeguards are in place for any international transfer of Your Personal Data.

Disclosure of Your Personal Data

Business Transactions

If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, Your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before Your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

Law enforcement

Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose Your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).

Other legal requirements

The Company may disclose Your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of the Company
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
  • Protect the personal safety of Users of the Service or the public
  • Protect against legal liability

Security of Your Personal Data

The security of Your Personal Data is important to Us. We transmit data over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and store account passwords only in hashed form. However, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect Your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee its absolute security.

CCPA / CPRA Privacy Rights (California)

Under the CCPA/CPRA, among other rights, California consumers have the right to:

  • Request that a business that collects a consumer's personal data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data it has collected.
  • Request that a business delete any personal data about the consumer that it has collected.
  • Request that a business that sells or shares a consumer's personal data not sell or share it ("Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information").
  • Be free from discrimination for exercising these rights.

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, our use of advertising and analytics identifiers (such as the Advertising ID) with Google may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising or a "sale" under California law. You can opt out of personalized ads through the consent controls described in "Our Advertising Partners" below, and by using your device's "Opt out of Ads Personalization" / Advertising ID reset controls. If You would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us; we have up to 45 days to respond.

GDPR Data Protection Rights

We would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user in the EEA or UK is entitled to the following:

  • The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
  • The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate, or complete information you believe is incomplete.
  • The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions (see "Deletion of Your Personal Data").
  • The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions, including processing for direct marketing.
  • The right to data portability – You have the right to request that we transfer the data we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

  • The right to lodge a complaint – You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If You make a request, We have one month to respond. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in "Contact Us".

Our Advertising Partners

The Taleem360 Website and app display advertisements served by Google. Our advertising providers are listed below; each has its own Privacy Policy for its handling of user data, hyperlinked for easier access:

On the Website (Google AdSense): Google and its advertising partners use cookies, web beacons and your IP address to serve and measure ads and, where You consent, to show personalized ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Visitors in the EU/UK and other consent-required regions are shown a consent banner; you can also manage personalized advertising in Google’s Ad Settings (adssettings.google.com) or by declining advertising cookies.

In the Android app (Google AdMob): To serve and measure ads in the app, Google AdMob uses the device Advertising ID and ad-interaction/measurement signals. You have control over this:

  • Consent (EU/UK and other consent-required regions): Before any ad personalization or use of the Advertising ID, we present a consent prompt using the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP). You may decline or limit personalized ads there, and you can change your choice later.
  • Non-personalized ads: Where you do not consent to personalized advertising, ads may still be shown on a non-personalized basis.
  • Device-level controls: You can reset or delete your Advertising ID and opt out of ads personalization at any time in your Android device settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).

Third-party ad servers or ad networks use technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or web beacons in the advertisements that appear on the Service. They may automatically receive your IP address and Advertising ID when this occurs, to measure the effectiveness of their advertising and/or to personalize the advertising content you see. Note that Taleem360 has no access to or control over the cookies or identifiers used by third-party advertisers beyond the consent controls described above.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is intended for a general audience and does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13. If You are a parent or guardian and You are aware that Your child has provided Us with Personal Data, please contact Us. If We become aware that We have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, We take steps to remove that information from Our servers.

If We need to rely on consent as a legal basis for processing Your information and Your country requires consent from a parent, We may require Your parent's consent before We collect and use that information.

Links to Other Websites

Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. If You click on a third party link, You will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise You to review the Privacy Policy of every site You visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update Our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify You of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

We will let You know via email and/or a prominent notice on Our Service, prior to the change becoming effective, and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
