In seven short verses the Surah moves from praise of Allah, to acknowledging Him as Master of the Day of Judgement, to a direct pledge of worship and a request for guidance along the straight path. It captures the entire relationship between a servant and his Lord.
It is called The Opening because it opens the Holy Quran, and it is also known as Umm al-Kitab (the Mother of the Book) and As-Sabul Mathani (the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses).
It is recited in every rakah of every prayer, making it the most frequently recited Surah in the life of a Muslim.
